Michael Schenker declared back in June that a superb lineup of musicians had recorded tracks for his upcoming album, which would be a commemoration of his years with UFO. A wide range of celebrities, including Joey Tempest and John Norum of Europe, Joe Lynn Turner, Roger Glover of Deep Purple, Dee Snider, Michael Voss, Joel Hoekstra, Carmine Appice, Adrian Vandenberg, Stephen Pearcy, and guitarist Slash of Guns N’ Roses, appear on “Michael Schenker: My Years With UFO”. Most intriguingly, leader Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses contributed a rare new vocal to the album. He recorded three tracks during sessions in Germany. When the CD is ultimately released today, Rose’s contribution is audible. “Love To Love“, penned by Schenker and frontman Phil Mogg of UFO, was first included as the last tune on the band’s 1978 album “Lights Out”. It was also included on the legendary live album “Strangers In The Night”, which was released the following year.
Axl is a perfectionist. He puts everything under the microscope. He was not happy with his performance on Too Hot To Handle and Only You Can Rock Me, but he did such a great version of Love To Love. He would go back into the studio and do something else: ‘It’s not right yet, it’s not right yet!’ We waited and waited, and eventually, he got it. It’s a really good song for Axl to sing.
