Legendary metal label Prosthetic Records acquired by MNRK Music Group

New York-based MNRK Music Group has officially acquired the legendary metal label Prosthetic Records, along with its extensive and influential catalog. As part of the deal, Prosthetic will now operate under MNRK Heavy, the company’s newly formed division focused entirely on heavier music. It’s a strategic move that significantly boosts MNRK’s presence in the metal world while giving Prosthetic a fresh platform for growth across digital platforms, physical formats, and special editions.

And things are kicking off with a bang. The first releases under this new ownership will come from hardcore/mathcore outfit Pupil Slicer and the genre-bending, noise-rock-meets-math-metal collective God Alone. According to MNRK’s Head of Rock and Metal, Scott Givens, Prosthetic Records has long been a pioneer in the metal scene, and bringing it into the MNRK Heavy fold is “a perfect fit.” A selection of Prosthetic’s current artists will also join the MNRK roster, with the label actively scouting for new talent as well.

Founded back in 1998 by two metal fans, E.J. Johantgen and Dan Fitzgerald, Prosthetic Records quickly carved out a name for itself by championing boundary-pushing subgenres and up-and-coming artists. The label was responsible for releasing the first two albums by Lamb of God, as well as early records from Animals as Leaders. It also helped launch the careers of bands like The Acacia Strain, Septicflesh, Venom Prison, and All That Remains—and it played a key role in introducing Gojira to North American audiences. These bands didn’t just rise to fame; they reshaped the very sound and scope of modern metal.

As for MNRK Music Group, its own journey began in 1987 under the name Koch Records. It later evolved into Entertainment One Music, and in 2021, it was acquired by investment firm Blackstone and rebranded as MNRK. Today, MNRK owns a number of notable indie labels including Last Gang and Dualtone, with a broad reach spanning everything from pop and hip hop to film soundtracks. But the acquisition of Prosthetic Records sends a clear message: MNRK is taking heavy music seriously—and sees major growth potential in metal’s future.
