Founded in 1982, Kreator is a German thrash metal band based in Essen. Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Miland “Mille” Petrozza, drummer Jürgen “Ventor” Reil, lead guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, and bassist Frédéric Leclercq make up their current lineup. Over the course of its 44-year existence, the band’s lineup has undergone numerous changes, most notably with regard to their lead guitarists and bassists. The only remaining original members of Kreator are Petrozza and Reil, the latter of whom quit the group in 1994 but returned in 1996. Leclercq joined Kreator in 2019 to replace Christian “Speesy” Giesler, who had been a member since 1994. Yli-Sirniö has been the band’s lead guitarist since 2001.

Kreator has put out sixteen studio albums, two EPs, two live albums, and three compilation albums so far. Their second studio album, “Pleasure to Kill” (1986), is considered an influential album of the genre, and they developed a sizable underground fan following within the global thrash metal community. Numerous of their later albums received great reviews as well. Kreator would not become widely known until later albums, such as their thirteenth studio album “Phantom Antichrist” (2012) and its follow-up “Gods of Violence” (2017), both of which charted highly in numerous countries, with the latter reaching number one on the German charts, despite being a significant band and one of the first European thrash metal bands to sign to a major label (signing to Epic Records in 1988).
