Kittie is a London, Ontario-based heavy metal band. Guitarist Fallon Bowman and drummer Mercedes Lander founded the group in 1996. The next year, bassist Tanya Candler and guitarist and vocalist Morgan Lander joined. The only consistent members of the band are Morgan and Mercedes. Over two million copies of their collective music have been sold globally through indie record labels. Because the moniker “seemed contradictory,” Kittie was selected as the band name. Kittie‘s first album, “Spit” (1999), was published after they signed with Ng Records. The following year, Artemis Records expanded the album’s distribution. The album, which mostly featured a nu metal sound, was certified gold by the RIAA and sold at least 600,000 copies in the US.
