It’s unsurprising that Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley named the biggest names imaginable when thinking of lead singers. The dude’s band isn’t exactly local, and they came about during that era of massive, operatic vocalists dominating arena stages — so of course he looks to those world-conquering rock stars when it comes to his favorite singers. Now, Stanley has revealed his 11 favorite lead singers of all time, and hey, there are even a few surprises on there!
Paul took to his Twitter to list his top 10. While the arena rockers are a given, some of the soul and classic rock singers aren’t. It just goes to show that for all the make-up and pyro, Kiss’ history is full of all sorts of musical influences.
Here’s who Paul paid tribute to:
11. Ann Wilson (Heart)
10. a tie between Brian Johnson (AC/DC) and Lou Gramm (Foreigner)
9. Brad Delp (Boston)
8. Steve Perry (Journey)
7. Janis Joplin
6. Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free)
5. Rod Stewart
4. David Ruffin (The Temptations)
3. Freddie Mercury (Queen)
2. Steve Marriott (Small Faces, Humble Pie)
1. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin)
