Gary Holt’s memoir “A Fabulous Disaster: From The Garage To Madison Square Garden, The Hard Way” is scheduled for publication on April 8, 2025, and the cover art for the book has been made public by Hachette Books. Holt is the guitarist for Exodus and Slayer. Holt offers an engaging, intimate biography of his “destruction-laden” life and the history of the thrash metal movement, from its beginnings in the San Francisco Bay Area to its global supremacy. The book includes an introduction by Kirk Hammett, a former guitarist for Exodus and current member of Metallica. Gary Holt, the guitarist and lead songwriter of Exodus, was a pioneer of the genre and one of its most ardent supporters. He saw his contemporaries, like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax, become hugely successful. Due to years of poor management, terrible luck, and poor decision-making, Exodus was unable to achieve the same level of success as his fellow musicians, who accumulated millions of fans and record sales. However, their records were critically acclaimed and served as an inspiration to generations of listeners.
