Pearl Jam touring member and former RHCP guitarist Josh Klinghoffer was called in at short notice to play drums for the band on September 13 in Fort Worth, Tx, while regular drummer Matt Cameron recovers from COVID-19. The latter’s illness, coupled with frontman Eddie Vedder’s battle with the flu, apparently prompted Pearl Jam to postpone their Sunday show outside Indianapolis. Vedder was feeling well enough to take the stage last Wednesday, but Cameron’s ongoing recovery meant he was unable to perform.
Klinghoffer, a multi-instrumentalist who was the lead guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019, became a full-time touring member of Pearl Jam in September 2021. He had previously filled in for Cameron twice during the drummer’s previous battle with COVID in May 2022. This time, Klinghoffer played drums for the entire show, rather than sharing duties with Richard Stuveru and original Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen.
