In Thorns’ new single “wormhusk” is a heavy portrayal of domestic violence

Jyväskylä-based metal collective In Thorns released their new single “wormhusk” on May 29. Founded in 2021, the band’s latest release continues their increasingly heavier and more focused musical direction.

‘Wormhusk’ deals with domestic violence at its worst. The song’s recurring central phrase, I’m too afraid to turn the lights off, captures the fear and insecurity of living in a place that should feel safe, but no longer does. wormhusk is a direct portrayal of what domestic violence can be at its worst. If I can help even one person find the strength to leave a situation where they feel threatened or vulnerable, then I have succeeded as a lyricist,” says vocalist and lyricist Kristian Ruutala.

“Composer Aavee Tikkanen had already created a musically heavy and oppressive atmosphere, which made it natural to build lyrics around it in a way that reflects our band’s soundscape. As an added bonus, I’m convinced this song will work really well in live sets during our upcoming autumn shows.”

“It feels great to finally release a new song, and I hope people will understand the deeper story behind it,” adds composer and co-producer Aavee Tikkanen. “The previously released ‘exit wounds’ and ‘wormhusk’ tie together the new sound of In Thorns very well. We can already reveal that the next single, arriving in early autumn, will once again showcase the versatility of our collective.”
