Imminence unleash their most ambitious work to date with the release of new album “Axis Mundi”; watch visualizer for “Shed Your Skin”

The world of “Axis Mundi” has finally been revealed. Swedish metalcore visionaries Imminence have unleashed their sixth studio album via Sumerian Records, bringing their most ambitious creative vision to life in a collision of crushing heaviness, haunting orchestration, and cinematic storytelling. More than an album, “Axis Mundi” is an immersive journey through a dark, mythological world, brought to life through music and film on a scale the band has never attempted before.

Self-produced by the band alongside engineer Henrik Udd (Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Dayseeker) and producer Drew Fulk (Twenty One Pilots, Knocked Loose, HEALTH), the 11-track album expands upon Imminence‘s signature sound with sweeping orchestration, atmospheric textures, and moments of striking vulnerability. Vocalist and violinist Eddie Berg moves between soaring clean vocals and visceral screams, while his signature violin takes on an even greater role in shaping the album’s cinematic sound.

“Imminence is meant to be discovered, not predicted,” shares the band. “After all these years in our career, we’ve created our own path, our own sound and brought something new to the genre. And this will always be our way. With Axis Mundi, we have worked more ambitiously and thoroughly than with any other album before. We have expanded the boundaries of what our art form is and how it is perceived. We have spent countless hours on not only crafting the album, but also understanding what it means and says about ourselves as artists and individuals. And we could not be more proud of what we have achieved. We’ve given you everything with this record.”

Following the international breakthrough of 2024’s “The Black”, Imminence entered a period of unprecedented growth, selling out shows across North America, South America, Australia, Japan, and Europe. Rather than simply building upon that success, the band set out to create something on an entirely new scale. Their signing to Sumerian Records marked the beginning of this next chapter, with “Axis Mundi” bringing their musical and visual ambitions together in their most expansive creative undertaking yet.

The album’s arrival follows the limited theatrical release of its companion film on September 29 in the U.S. and October 1 across the UK, Europe, and Australia. Created in collaboration with Sumerian Pictures, the film combines previously released music videos with unheard music and never-before-seen visuals to reveal the complete story behind “Axis Mundi”, bringing the band’s dark, mythological world to the big screen. At the heart of the story is an immortal knight cursed to wander the world in search of his own death. Pursued by the Shadow, an evil counterpart born from the same curse, and reluctantly accompanied by a hound, the knight journeys toward the “Axis Mundi” – the mythical bridge between the worlds of life and death. Beneath its medieval fantasy setting, the story explores fate, mortality, and the search for meaning in a world suspended between darkness and light.

The narrative has unfolded through a series of interconnected cinematic music videos, beginning with “The Sword That Never Bends,” which introduced the knight and set him on his journey. “False Light” and “If Not Now, When” continued to expand the album’s mythological world, with each visual revealing another chapter of the story. Developed alongside longtime visual collaborator and album artist Jakob Koc, scriptwriter Juan Felipe Zul, and director Pavel Trebukhin, the project represents the culmination of years of world-building through Imminence‘s music, artwork, and live performances.

The release also arrives amid growing momentum for Imminence at U.S. rock radio, with current single “Crestfallen” sitting at #39 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and #31 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart, and continuing to climb. One of the album’s more atmospheric and introspective offerings, the track pairs Berg’s emotive clean vocals with haunting violin and immersive electronic textures, showcasing another dimension of the band’s sound.

With “Axis Mundi”, Imminence have created a world that extends far beyond the confines of a traditional album. From the opening notes to the final act of its companion film, the project represents a new creative chapter for the band – one that audiences can now experience in its entirety.

Following  the release of the album, Imminence will embark on their biggest-ever European headline tour in early 2027, with support from August Burns Red and House of Protection. Check out the tickets informations and 2027 tour dates here.
