Igorrr is back with a genre-defying feast for the ears. The new single “Blastbeat Falafel” has just landed, offering a taste of the upcoming album “Amen”, due out September 19 via Metal Blade Records.
True to form, “Blastbeat Falafel” is a deliciously chaotic blend of metal and oriental music. This time, the madness includes guest appearances from Mr. Bungle’s Trey Spruance and Estradasphere/Secret Chiefs 3 member Timba Harris. It’s a fitting collaboration — Mr. Bungle has long been a major influence on Igorrr’s boundary-pushing sound, with frontman Gautier Serre even crediting the band as a key inspiration in his musical journey.
According to Gautier, the track tells the tale of a metalhead who’s so obsessed with oriental music that he overdoes it, loses himself completely, and winds up in a mental institution. Sounds about right for Igorrr.
The upcoming album “Amen” continues Igorrr’s tradition of smashing conventions — but this time, the atmosphere takes a darker, more solemn turn. Gautier says the record is heavier and more ceremonial than past efforts, partly thanks to material recorded with a real choir in a church. Still, tracks like “Blastbeat Falafel” and “ADHD” add a playful counterbalance to the otherwise intense mood.
Over the years, Igorrr has carved out a one-of-a-kind niche, weaving together baroque flourishes, death metal brutality, and electronic mayhem. Gautier reveals that he draws inspiration from even the tiniest details in life — sometimes creating music in his sleep.
