“I try to be a sponge of learning anything new” – Interview with Lauri Porra about Stratovarius, solo projects and classical music

Author John Wins - 23.10.2024

Stratovarius bassist Lauri Porra is not only a talented musician playing in one of the most important bands to ever come out of Finland, but also a prolific composer and artist with an interest in all types of music. Parallel to his life on the road, the musician became a requested composer for series/movie scores and events with orchestras.

Currently on tour with Stratovarius in support of the album “Survive”, Lauri has found time to finish his latest solo album, available in English (Matter and Time) and Finnish (Aineen ja ajan messu). At the same time, he composed and performed an ambitious live performance called BASSO, featuring an orchestra with 150 bass instruments and voices, playing for more than 25,000 people in his hometown Helsinki.

In between his busy touring and composing schedule, Chaoszine spoke with Lauri to know more about his latest projects, but also to understand what drives the Finnish musician. Check out our conversation about his career playing metal, how his family influenced him musically, and his philosophy on life and art.
