Obscura has made headlines all around the metal world as of late, and for all of the wrong reasons. There are many articles out there detailing all of the complex plagiarism allegations evolving guitarist and frontman Steffen Kummerer and ex-members Alex Weber (Exist) and Christian Münzner both accusing Kummerer of stealing uncleared riffs note for note, with Max Phelps standing by his fellow Exist man.

Despite multiple attempts from various news outlets, there had still not been an official statements by either Nuclear Blast, the label responsible for the release of “A Sonication” neither from the frontman himself, until earlier today, where he broke his silence in an interview with Brazilian journalist Daniel Agapito for Roadie Crew.

“Ah, I think there’s a lot of frustration swinging by. I think it’s a lot of unnecessary public defamation. That’s my two cents. If I have a problem with a person, I pick up a phone and call the person, but I’m not going online and starting a witch hunt. I think the intention was a little bit different than finding a problem and solving it. That’s very, very sad, because I worked with the guys for a long time and we split actually well. I even sent them the album upfront. I sent them the final record so they can listen to it, I have nothing to hide. Now I have to deal with someone sidelining the whole album campaign, so it’s very, very sad. But what can you do? It’s out there already and people have made their opinion, nobody wants to hear a different side, or a second opinion.”

“I’ll deal with that, I’ll take care of that, but it will not be very nice for them. That’s everything I can say. That’s very sad because it was very unnecessary. These days if you point out someone in public, the person who points it out also doesn’t look very good at all. In the end, you only have losers that don’t look very mature. That’s why I’m not answering anything in public, there won’t be any statements, I’ll talk to the people directly if there’s a problem, but nobody’s approached me directly, that’s the quite fun thing. I think there’s a lot of frustration swinging by and I’ll take care of it, but on my terms, not in public.”

“A Sonication” is scheduled to release on Feburary 7th through Nuclear Blast Records.
