Arizona-based groove metallers Soulfly have released their thirteenth opus, “Chama“, via Nuclear Blast Records.
The album, which includes ten new songs, was recorded at Platinum Underground Studio in Mesa, Arizona, by John Aquilino and was produced by the band’s drummer, Zyon Cavalera, alongside Arthur Rizk. Max Cavalera’s other son, Igor Amadeus Cavalera, also contributed lyrics and bass to this record, which blends tribal influences from Amazonian tribes, Brazilian favelas, and indigenous peoples across the Americas. Back to the primitive? Back to the roots? Maybe.
Days before the LP’s release, Chaoszine sat down with Max Cavalera to discuss the album’s conception, its guests, Soulfly‘s current state, what it’s like to play two shows in one night, his views on Brazilian politics and more. An authentic and unfiltered Max.
