“I always admired Mike Patton because he can do everything as a vocalist” – Lacuna Coil’s Andrea Ferro reveals his story as a metal vocalist

Anyone familiar with Lacuna Coil knows that each album in their distinguished career represents more than just music – it’s a vivid soundtrack for a specific moment in time. Their new album “Sleepless Empire” delivers a dark, cinematic experience that stays true to the distinctive elements that have earned Lacuna Coil their celebrated place in heavy music.

Even without vocals, guitars, or drums, the orchestral elements of “Sleepless Empire” could stand alone as a film score. From the massive choruses in the opening track “The Siege” to the infectious “I Wish You Were Dead” and the classic feel of the title track, the album showcases the band’s confidence while offering some unexpected turns. These include guest appearances from New Years Day‘s Ash Costello on “In The Mean Time” and a powerful performance from Lamb of God‘s Randy Blythe on “Hosting the Shadow.”

The album’s special quality goes beyond these vocal collaborations. According to Ferro, Lacuna Coil maintains its timeless appeal through curiosity and creative adaptation to new influences, while staying true to their core identity. He cites Sleep Token, Spiritbox, Bad Omens, and Bring Me The Horizon as examples of bands following a similar path to keep their sound fresh. This independent approach has helped Lacuna Coil balance artistic growth with fan expectations. Ferro emphasizes how current global circumstances have provided abundant inspiration for the album’s weighty themes and atmosphere.

Lacuna Coil‘s dark sound mirrors our contemporary society. “Sleepless Empire” observes the changes in our world, where people are constantly connected to their phones, endlessly scrolling, always active – a perpetual cycle that never stops. This theme resonates throughout every aspect of the album.
