Half Sumo, a fight culture brand based in New York, has partnered with Ozzy Osbourne to bring his distinct legacy into the martial arts industry. The “Crazy Train” No-Gi Set, a custom-designed rashguard and shorts, and the “Prince Of Darkness” Streetwear Set are the first pieces of official Ozzy Osbourne jiu-jitsu gear ever produced. The legally licensed line debuts on Friday, October 23. Fans can use this link to register for early access right now. Ozzy‘s name has been imprinted on recordings, arena stages, festival lineups, television, and pop culture all around the world for more than 50 years. The Ozzy Osbourne brand now makes its debut on the mats in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, one of the combat sports with the fastest rate of growth in the world, which is practiced every day in academies all over the world.
There is already a family history of the sport. Jack Osbourne, Ozzy‘s son, began practicing jiu-jitsu in his forties, practices frequently, and has received his purple belt. Each item in the series is designed to be used for training, perspiration, and combat. There are more similarities between jiu-jitsu and heavy metal than either realizes. Outsiders constructed both. Repetition, obsession, and the perseverance to continue going even when it hurts are all rewarded. Ozzy, a working-class child from Aston, Birmingham, who rebuilt himself as a solo icon, helped create heavy metal with Black Sabbath, and spent a lifetime defying all predictions about him, personified that mentality. Half Sumo has been narrating the same tale of the underdog who declines to tap since 2018.
We both grew up as lifelong Ozzy fans. Having the opportunity to collaborate on this project is a genuine honor for us and a way to celebrate his incredible legacy. Ozzy was the original underdog, and jiu-jitsu is built on that same spirit of the smaller person who refuses to quit. – Luigi Scarcella and Alberto Marchetti, co-founders of Half Sumo
