Grindcore supergroup Bent Sea unveils new single “My Fall” ahead of debut album release

California grindcore super-project Bent Sea featuring Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren, Aborted singer Sven de Caluwé, and Napalm Death’s Shane Embury—has dropped a new single and music video titled “My Fall.” The track, which includes guest vocals by Kevin Sharp (Venomous Concept, ex-Brutal Truth), appears on their upcoming debut full-length album, “The Dormant Ruin”, set to arrive on September 5th via Give Praise Records.

The song serves as a heartfelt tribute to Verbeuren’s late mother, who passed in 2016. He described the inspiration behind “My Fall” as rooted in the words she spoke near the end of her life—words that were heartbreaking yet beautiful and poetic—and framed the song as a way to honor her spirit and unwavering support for his musical journey.

Stylistically, the single is a departure from Bent Sea’s typical blistering grindcore weaponry. Instead, it unfolds as a slower, heavy-crushing mid-paced number. Verbeuren cited Brutal Truth’s “Need to Control” as a musical touchstone, with Sharp bringing the emotional weight of the lyrics to life through his vocal performance.

“The Dormant Ruin” promises 20 tracks delivered in just over 33 minutes—a condensed, intense burst of death/black/industrial-infused grindcore. The album was produced by Daniel Bergstrand (known for his work with Meshuggah and Dark Funeral) and also features guest appearances from John Cooke (Napalm Death, Venomous Concept) and Sylvain Coudret (Soilwork, Scarve).

This release marks the band’s return after several years of relative silence. The band first emerged in 2011 with the “Noistalgia” EP (which featured Devin Townsend on bass), followed by a series of split releases and the guest-heavy “Instagrind” series.
