As we reported last week, former Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe injured himself during a performance with his band at the Planet Rockstock 2024 festival in the UK, resulting in broken ribs. The two planned Finland shows last weekend had to be postponed until March 2025 because, according to his doctors, Michael Monroe “will need at least 6 weeks to recover”. Now, Michael Monroe explains how the accident happened:
“[…] I had a little mishap during the 3rd to last song. As you know, at times I get up on the railing that’s in front of the audience, separating them from the stage, and stand there singing, holding on to people’s hands. I always look for a firm grip but some people don’t realize that I depend on them to stay up there. So now, just as I’m pulling myself up on the railing and before I’d managed to find my balance, the guy whose hand I relied on, suddenly slipped his hand out of mine at the worst moment. I completely lost my balance and fell backwards thinking ‘oh shit, this is gonna hurt!’. I hit my back full force on the edge of the stage and broke my ribs. I got back up on the railing & on the stage & finished the song. Luckily we had only two more songs left. Of course I finished the set & even did the jump off the bass drum for the last hit. I knew the ribs were busted, as the doctor confirmed when I got back to Finland (after a long, painful trip). Upon my return I also got the flu (of course, ha,ha! and coughing & sneezing with broken ribs is excruciatingly painful, as you know. But I’m glad nothing worse happened. […] In about 6 weeks I’ll be as good as new!” – Michael Monroe
Michael Monroe fans in the UK can look forward to his return, as the band has just announced a UK tour for May 2025 and June 2025. The dates can be seen below. Tickets and further information can be found here.
