Fixation delivers powerful, experimental and emotionally charged mini-album “Speak in Tongues”, October 11th

Shortly after their successful debut album, the award-winning metalcore band Fixation is ready to release new music with “Speak in Tongues” – a conceptual mini-album exploring themes of belonging, identity, and power. Across eight tracks, the band from Norway takes listeners on a musical journey where thought-provoking lyrics and a complex soundscape intertwine.

The album is both epic and experimental, drawing inspiration from films and TV series like Dune and Don’t Worry Darling, as well as artists like Aurora. Fixation introduces a refined yet hard-hitting expression, where the grand melodic vocals the band is known for are now mixed with intense screaming – a new dimension from vocalist Jonas Hansen.

The album is about a person searching for meaning in a world that rejects them. They find refuge in a cult, but quickly realize it’s no better than the society they felt excluded from. They decide to create their own cult but loses touch with themself in the process. Jonas Hansen

Hansen adds that the band has long been fascinated by cult movements and their psychological power. The album is filled with hidden hints and “Easter eggs” for attentive listeners.

Musically, Fixation has continued their evolution following their critically acclaimed debut album “More Subtle Than Death” from 2023. On “Speak in Tongues”, we hear a band that has refined its sound, experimented with vocal techniques, and integrated musical elements to create something unique.

We believe this is our best work to date. We’ve learned so much as songwriters and instrumentalists, and this time there were no compromises. We hope the world loves this as much as we do. Jonas Hansen

“Speak in Tongues” is released on October 11th, 2024, marking a new high point in what has already been a groundbreaking year for Fixation. The band received the Breakthrough of the Year award at the Norwegian Publishing Awards earlier this year, as well as a nomination for Song of the Year for the track “Ignore the Disarray.” These historic recognitions are notable, as no metal band had previously been nominated for or won these awards.

The Breakthrough of the Year award came as a result of the band’s rapid progress, establishing themselves as one of the most promising and exciting newcomers in the genre. Throughout 2023, Fixation released their debut album and performed over 60 international shows with renowned acts like Devin Townsend, Imminence, and Annisokay. Their intense and energetic live performances have secured them spots at some of Europe’s most prestigious festivals, such as Tons of Rock, The Great Escape, Summer Breeze Open Air, Tuska, Masters of Rock, Eurosonic, and Download Festival.

The band has received glowing reviews from the international press, and several prominent figures have expressed their admiration. Daniel P. Carter on BBC Radio 1 Rock Show stated, “Jordan from Bring Me The Horizon texted me and was like, ‘what band was that, what was that song called?’ Says a lot!” – and Alex Baker from Kerrang! Radio was quick to predict big success for the boys from Tønsberg: “It’s a huge sound from a band that’s going to be absolutely massive.”
