Live Nation, a company that promotes concerts and owns almost everything in the live entertainment sector, has made a daring statement about sex and concerts. As reported by loudwire, live music is said to be more popular than sexual fulfillment. Let’s first recognize that Live Nation’s poll results are being revealed during a highly controversial period in the live music industry before delving into the survey’s methodology. In recent years, ticket costs for music enthusiasts have continued to rise sharply. In June, Business Insider declared that “expensive concert tickets are the new normal.” According to Pollstar data given by the site, the average ticket cost for the top 100 tours in 2024 was almost $135. That figure was closer to $96 five years ago.
The goal of Live Nation’s recent Living for Live Global Study is to demonstrate that, despite soaring ticket prices, music fans are still very interested in live performances. The survey’s results are a little unexpected. People are twice as likely to choose seeing their favorite singer perform live over having sex, according to a website created by Live Nation. According to the results, 70% of respondents would prefer concerts over sex. An intriguing explanation for the discrepancy between the two responses can be found by scrolling further down the website. According to Live Nation, their conclusions are based on a sample of 40,000 respondents from 15 different nations. The age range of the respondents was 18 to 54.
According to multiple studies, 70% of respondents said they would rather attend a concert than engage in sexual activity. Additionally, the live event behemoth carried out a “custom global study” based on over 1,000 “heavy social media users” across eight nations. It’s unclear if the frequency of social media posts on “concerts” or “sex” was taken into account when calculating the total stated results. The majority of public social media accounts are more likely to have one of those two. Live Nation asked respondents what kind of entertainment they would prefer if they could only have one for the rest of their life, in addition to their preferences for concerts versus sex.
It should come as no surprise that “live music” was the most popular option, selected by 39% of respondents. “Movies in theatres” came in second at 17%, followed by “professional sports events” at 14%.
