Extreme has initiated production on its seventh studio album, as per Blabbermouth. The forthcoming project will serve as a successor to “Six,” released in June 2023 through earMUSIC.

Earlier today, on Monday, January 5, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt shared an image of himself in a recording studio, accompanied by the message: “DAY 1 2026 EX7REME.” In November, Extreme released the official music video for “Here’s To The Losers,” completing a series of 12 visual interpretations of songs from “Six.”

The album “Six” elevated the band’s profile, driven by notable singles such as “Rise,” which featured a guitar solo acclaimed as “the guitar solo of the century,” along with “Banshee” and “Other Side Of The Rainbow.” This release was supported by an extensive international tour spanning the United States, Europe, India, Japan, and Australia. Bettencourt reaffirmed his reputation as a leading figure in rock with a historic performance at Ozzy Osbourne‘s farewell concert, “Back To The Beginning.” Subsequently, he was invited to serve as music director and guitarist at the 2025 MTV VMAs, delivering a prominent tribute to Osbourne alongside Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Yungblud.

“Six” debuted at number 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, with first-week sales of 12,500 copies. It was the band’s first studio album since 2008, and their last Top 10 entry was “III Sides To Every Story,” which reached its peak at number 10 in October 1992.
