When considering the Finnish metal scene, countless bands have conquered the world by exploring the best of the melancholy, darkness, and dry humor so characteristic of the land of a thousand lakes. But there’s one group, specifically from the city of Kuopio, that has been making heavy music for the last four decades, which gave them the title of pioneers, the one and only Tarot, led by the legendary brothers Zachary and Marko Hietala.
After decades releasing classic albums and touring the world, the band had to abruptly interrupt their journey due to the passing of their founder and old friend Pecu Cinnari in 2016. A long period of mourning was necessary before they returned as a band and took to the stage in 2023, realizing that what they did was special, fun, and a great way to honor their own legacy. They haven’t stopped since. Tarot is back!
During their Finnish tour celebrating their 40th anniversary, Chaoszine sat down with Zachary and Marko in Helsinki to talk about the band’s origins, the passing of drummer Pecu Cinnari, and Tarot’s plans for future music. Check it out!
