The nascent new supergroup doPE has reached a consensus with Edsel Dope of Dope, as per theprp. Chuck D (Public Enemy, former Prophets of Rage, etc.) and John Densmore of The Doors just started the latter project. The pair recently revealed that their debut album, “No Country for Old Men,” will be available on April 18. Last month, Edsel, the owner of the Dope trademark, publicly contacted the two Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, indicating that they might be able to come to an agreement on using the name for this project. According to Chuck D’s recent tweet from yesterday, February 07th, such an agreement has been reached and will enable the two to proceed with the project as scheduled.
We would like to send a special shout out to Edsel Dope from the band Dope for giving us his blessing, surrounding the trademarked usage of the name Dope for our “no country for old men” collaboration. We appreciate his love and support.
Dope is a New York City-based American industrial metal band that was founded in 1997. “Blood Money Part Zer0”, the band’s most recent full-length studio album, was released in February 2023. The band has released seven full-length albums. The current lineup includes lead guitarist Virus, bassist Acey Slade, drummer Daniel Fox, founder member and lead singer Edsel Dope, and rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Edsel Dope. They have sold more than a million albums globally as of 2022. While their parents divorced while Edsel was a child, he and his brother Simon Dope were split up. The two reconnected as adults, and Simon began playing keyboards, sampling, and percussion in Edsel’s band. After that, the two brought on Tripp Eisen as bassist, Preston Nash as drummer, and Sloane Jentry as guitarist.
