German black-metal outfit Der Weg Einer Freiheit has just revealed “Marter,” the opening track of their upcoming sixth studio album, “Innern”, due to arrive via Season of Mist on September 12th. Clocking in at around 9 minutes and 24 seconds, “Marter” is described as a searing exploration of inner torment and emotional release—turning suffering into a path toward transcendence.
“Innern”—which means “inward” in German—marks a deeply introspective chapter for the Würzburg-formed quartet. The album is said to balance post-metal atmosphere and black-metal ferocity while remaining emotionally focused and compositionally expansive. Produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by frontman Nikita Kamprad.
“Marter” sits at the heart of the album’s concept—suffering as not just agony, but a conduit to transcendence—and signals the band’s sustained drive toward emotional vulnerability through intensity.
To support the release, Der Weg Einer Freiheit will embark on a European tour starting September 18th in Dresden and wrapping up October 4 in Bochum. The 15-date run hits cities like Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Paris, and Tilburg—featuring a noteworthy stop at Bochum’s Christuskirche, chosen for its stark acoustic resonance.
With “Innern”, the band continues a fifteen-year journey of forging black metal grounded in philosophical weight, emotional complexity, and dynamic contrasts. The arrival of “Marter” offers a compelling preview of what feels like their most personal and intense work yet.
