The English rock group Def Leppard was founded in Sheffield in 1976. Rick Savage (bass, backup vocals), Joe Elliott (lead vocals), Rick Allen (drums), Phil Collen (guitar, backing vocals), and Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals) have been the band’s members since 1992. They made a name for themselves in the early 1980s British heavy metal movement. “On Through the Night”, the band’s debut album from 1980, peaked at number 15 in the UK but got little attention overseas. Mutt Lange produced their second album, “High ‘n’ Dry” (1981), which helped them establish their melodic hard rock sound. “Bringin’ On the Heartbreak,” the album’s best-selling song, was featured in one of the first rock videos on MTV in 1982.

Photograph” and “Rock of Ages” both topped the US Rock Tracks chart and made it to the top 20 of the Hot 100 on their next studio album, “Pyromania”, which was released in January 1983. Collen appeared on five of the album’s tracks, replacing guitarist Pete Willis, who played rhythm guitar throughout before being fired. “Pyromania” was certified Diamond in the US and peaked at No. 2 on the album chart. The highly popular “Hysteria” (1987), the band’s fourth album, peaked at the top of the US, UK, Canadian, and Australian charts and stayed there for more than two years. One of the best-selling albums ever, it has sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
