dead7 confronts depression head-on with new single “Cannibal”

St. Louis alternative metal five-piece dead7 have dropped their new single “Cannibal” along with an official music video. The track marks a new chapter following their debut album “Love What You Can While You Got Something Left to Love.”

dead7 stepped outside their comfort zone with “Cannibal,” according to vocalist Jason Kozik. The song tackles the weight of living with mental health struggles, specifically major depressive disorder.

“‘Cannibal’ is a song that represents how someone with a mental disorder may feel,” Kozik explains. “This song dives into the feelings and thoughts I’ve been dealt while battling major depressive disorder. No matter how well things are going in life or anything positive that’s been happening, there’s still that one thought in your head stopping yourself from enjoying life and the things in it. We wanted to find a good balance between the heavier side of our instrumentals while including a few newer things for us.”

The band features Jason Kozik on vocals, Dexter Greer and Tim Quinn on guitars, Stephen Salyer on bass, and Zach Guinn on drums. Before signing with SharpTone Records, dead7 built their following independently and racked up millions of streams.
