Greg Tribbett, known for his guitar work in Mudvayne and formerly Hellyeah, has launched another heavy music project alongside his brother Derrick “Tripp” Tribbett. The group, called Dead Wyte, has released its first single, “Mother Trucker”, accompanied by a music video.
The release puts the two musicians’ shared history in heavy music at the forefront. Derrick Tribbett previously performed with acts including Dope and Twisted Method, while Greg remains widely recognised for his contributions to Mudvayne‘s distinctive guitar sound.
The video for “Mother Trucker” was directed by Dusten Boles. It introduces the new project through an original song rather than a reinterpretation of music from either brother’s previous bands.
Dead Wyte have not announced an album release date in the information accompanying the debut single. For now, the video offers the first opportunity to hear the siblings’ collaboration under the new name.
Tribbett established the musical ensemble Mudvayne in 1996 in Peoria, Illinois. The initial configuration included bassist Shawn Barclay, drummer Matthew McDonough, and Tribbett, who played the lead guitar.
The definitive lineup of the band was completed when Chad Gray, previously earning an annual salary of $40,000 in a factory, resigned from his employment to assume the role of lead vocalist. Tribbett participated in all of the band’s recordings until they entered an indefinite hiatus in 2010, and he has been actively involved in Mudvayne’s reunion efforts since 2021.
In September 2025, Tribbett experienced a personal tragedy with the passing of his wife after a protracted struggle with cancer. This loss compelled him to abstain from the band’s tour that autumn, which commemorated the 25th anniversary of their album “L.D.50”.
In 2006, Tribbett collaborated with Mudvayne‘s lead vocalist Chad Gray, rhythm guitarist Tom Maxwell, and bassist Jerry Montano of Nothingface to establish the heavy metal and groove metal supergroup Hellyeah. He exited the ensemble in 2014 to explore alternative musical pursuits.
In 2015, Tribbett founded the band Audiotopsy alongside former Skrape lead vocalist Billy Keeton, bassist Perry Stern, and former Mudvayne drummer Matthew McDonough. The group released its inaugural studio album, “Natural Causes”, on October 2, 2015.
Their subsequent album, “The Real Now”, was unveiled on November 2, 2018. In 2021, both Greg and Matthew departed from Audiotopsy in light of Mudvayne‘s reformation.
