In a recent interview with SVT, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine says it’s ok to throw stuff at an artist on stage, and also has some harsh words for those who disagree with him.
In Mustaine’s words:
If people don’t like you, they’re gonna throw shit. Maybe it’s escalated from rotten tomatoes to dildos; but if you’re giving them a great show, they’re not gonna do that. So don’t act like a spoiled brat and tell them not to throw stuff.
Besides the fact that the “spoiled brats” are actually those that think it’s okay to throw stuff at others, instead of behaving like adults, it’s against the law to throw stuff at people just because you don’t like them. Forbes has published editorials about that practice, which is unfortunately more common than one might think, and quotes New York public defender Eliza Orlins to remind everyone that besides this being a rude gesture, it’s literally illegal.
In Orlins’ words:
In theory, if you’re there at a concert supporting an artist and you’re so excited to be there and you just want to throw a friendship bracelet because you want to give them a gift, then you’re not intending to injure them, but were you being reckless? Did you cause physical injury? Charges certainly could stem from this. People need to be extremely careful in doing things like this and think about the consequences of their actions.
