Even though you read my name here on Chaoszine fairly often, you must know that my musical roots are deep into the punk scene. So it wouldn’t be a surprise at all if I’m the one that has the task of reviewing White Reaper‘s upcoming album, titled “Only Slightly Empty”.
And yes, the title in this case is most definitely appropriate. The album is only slightly empty of mistakes! Because of the amazing production, mixing and mastering are so spectacular, the listening experience is marvelous. I love when bands give every instrument the space they deserve, and perhaps this is one of the reasons I’m so fond of this genre. White Reaper are taking full advantage of this aspect!
One of the best tracks is “Rubber Cement“, it sounds so versatile, diverse and overall intriguing. The only downside I could find is that the songs are so magnetic and in a blink of an eye it’s already the end. So well, this is certainly a good reason to make multiple spins, am I right? It’s going to be so worth it! I actually think the more you listen to it, the better it gets.
The feeling of grown up wisdom that permeates every track is what makes “Only Slightly Empty” more than its catchy hooks or heavier sonic palette. This band has persevered and come out stronger, knowing what makes them unique. White Reaper sounds definitely more complete and purposeful than ever. Sometimes the best course of action is to remember what initially made you happy. And of course, keep on doing that!
In conlusion, “Only Slightly Empty” is a new and improved chapter for White Reaper‘s artistic path, as well as a celebration of their strengths. This is the sound of a band that has rediscovered the passion for their work, and boy, is it infectious. The album is a powerful reminder of why great rock music will always be popular, for both new and devoted fans.
