Cheap Trick have confirmed that they are preparing to take a break from live performances after decades of near-constant touring. In a statement shared on October 29, 2026, the American rock veterans addressed concerns following the cancellation of several dates previously scheduled for 2027.
The band emphasised that the decision was made because its members want time away from the road, rather than in response to a new health issue. In their statement they said:
“We’ve decided to take some time off after decades of touring because we need a break. Not for health reasons.”
The musicians intend to complete their remaining November 2026 shows before beginning what they described as their first break in 50 years. The upcoming US run is scheduled to open in Fort Wayne, Indiana on November 5 and conclude in Detroit, Michigan on November 22. No date for a return to touring has been announced.
Affected 2027 engagements include a February show at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in North Carolina and a planned appearance at Florida’s Thunder by the Bay festival. The organisers confirmed the cancellations and outlined refund arrangements for affected ticket buyers.
The announcement comes after a September concert at which founding guitarist Rick Nielsen temporarily left the stage because of breathing difficulties, leading to speculation about the band’s health. Cheap Trick’s latest statement explicitly rejects health reasons as the explanation for the upcoming break. The band has not announced a breakup.
Cheap Trick released their most recent studio album, “All Washed Up”, in November 2025.
