Brian “Head” Welch, a guitarist for Korn, recently expressed his affection for the contemporary alternative metal band Deftones, as per theprp. Welch is seen sporting a Deftones x Dickies throwback shirt, a long-bootlegged style that Deftones formally revived last autumn, in the recently uploaded video to his social media accounts below. In the video, Welch also sang a quick rendition of the Deftones‘ 2x platinum 1997 hit “My Own Summer (Shove It)” on an acoustic guitar. The video concluded with a picture of him hanging out with Israel Arvizu, the son of “retired” Korn bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu. Israel is the bassist for the nu metal group PlaYuH, carrying on his father’s legacy. On a cover of Korn‘s 1996 song “No Place To Hide,” you can witness him performing the low-end tasks.
In the mid to late 1990s, Korn and Deftones were practically inseparable, but with 2000’s “White Pony,” Deftones attempted to escape the nu metal confines. The band broke away from Korn, Limp Bizkit, and other bands in an effort to forge their own identity. This conflict has been discussed in great detail in the past. In 2017, Welch bemoaned the growing distance between Deftones and Korn.
