During Wacken Open Air, we got the opportunity to chat with lead singer Kevin from Insanity Alert. We spoke about the festival, Black Sabbath and more.
I’m here with the fantastic Kevin from Insanity Alert. How are you doing today?
Kevin Stout: I’m fantastic.
This year is the 35th anniversary of Wacken Open Air. How does it feel to play on such a legendary occasion?
Kevin Stout: It’s fantastic. I’m really flattered. I never thought when I started this band that I would actually make it to this festival. And now it’s the second time that we play here. It’s a completely different experience than anything else we have done. It’s super chaotic, but always fantastic to play.
For sure it is. Since you have a lot of experience playing live shows, but you also have experience in production and recording, do you think that the life of an artist is a lonely life?
Kevin Stout: No. For me, I think I’m a sociable person to begin with. I love it. I love going out there. I’m not the biggest fan of recording. As a singer, it’s not that I develop skills. Especially, I’m not a virtuous singer, so I spend my days in the studio. I’m always super happy that we made records, but for me, playing live and seeing other bands and meeting people is the absolute main thing that I want to do.
That’s very true. Last year, it was an amazing year for a lot of things, but unfortunately we also lost the Prince of Darkness on the Oscars. Was he or Black Sabbath an influence for you and the band?
Kevin Stout: For the band, yes. I think he’s for everyone that is involved with louder music. He has been an influence, maybe without even knowing it. I watched a lot of his show too, of the MTV. I’m a singer, so I thought he was always brilliant with that. I think I’m not the biggest metal maniac in the band. The one that just arrived is probably a way bigger Black Sabbath fan than me. But yeah, legends, what can you say? They are the founders of what we do. I think without bands like that, like Motörhead, Black Sabbath, we would not be here today.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this with me. Is there anything else that you want to add to our readers and viewers?
Kevin Stout: Ciao ragazzi. Fate i bravi.
