With the publication of “Fighting Back,” the explosive debut album from Battlezone, iconic vocalist Paul Di’Anno, the recognisable original voice behind Iron Maiden’s formative years, began a daring new chapter in 1986, as per Blabbermouth. Di’Anno refused to turn around after leaving Iron Maiden. Rather, he persisted, putting together Battlezone to unleash a new wave of unadulterated British heavy metal might. “Fighting Back,” which was first released in the UK by Raw Power Records, cemented Di’Anno‘s position as one of metal’s most powerful frontmen by demonstrating a renewed creative fire and capturing his unmistakable grit and passion.
The album combined violent guitars, streetwise energy, and melodic force to create a statement of resiliency and reinvention. Notable tunes included “Welcome To The Battlezone,” “Warchild,” “Running Blind,” and the title anthem (“Forever) Fighting Back”). The record, which was recorded in East London and co-produced by Ian Richardson and the band, debuted a strong lineup that included drummer Bob Falck, bassist Pete West, and guitarists John Hurley and John Wiggins. Deko Entertainment has remastered and reissued “Fighting Back,” a seminal release by the former frontman of Iron Maiden, to commemorate its 40th anniversary. Four decades later, “Fighting Back” is still a crucial record of 1980s heavy metal. August will see its release on 180-gram vinyl with the bonus track “Rising Star” and two limited-edition colours on CD.
“Fighting Back” serves as a potent reminder of an artist who never gave up for fans of vintage heavy metal, collectors of NWOBHM history, and those who continue to honour Paul Di’Anno‘s lasting legacy.
