Grindcore act Barren Path have dropped their latest single “Horizonless”, a blistering taste of what’s to come on their debut album “Grieving”, set for release on October 31 through Willowtip Records.
The band rose from the ashes of the recently dissolved Gridlink, with guitarist Takafumi Matsubara and drummer Bryan Fajardo setting their sights on a new mission. They’re joined by Maruta and Shock Withdrawal vocalist Mitchell Luna, alongside Rory Kobzina and Mauro Cordoba, both of whom were part of the “Coronet Juniper” sessions for Gridlink.
“Horizonless” showcases the band’s signature approach: furious blast strikes, sharp riffing, and guttural vocal assaults, balanced by moments of melody and dissonance that slice through like a swarm of shurikens. The song is both crushing and strangely vulnerable, reflecting the duality that defines “Grieving” as a statement release in grindcore.
The album was recorded across Los Angeles, Dallas, and Portland, with vocals tracked by Phil Vera at Veracuda Studios, guitars and drums captured and mixed by Irving Lopez at Anomalous Mind Recordings, and mastering handled by Leon Del Muerte at Beastman Audio.
