Having toured extensively in the Far East, Europe and the United States, extreme metal band CHTHONIC ended their long silence in March with the release of the single “Endless Aeons“, accompanied by a very poignant video.
Today the band releases the “MEGAPORTAL 2425” live EP, which also features the “Endless Aeons” track. The EP contains a total of five tracks recorded at this and last year’s shows at Megaport Festival. A recurring theme at these shows is breaking the boundary between reality and illusion and creating a virtual time and space on stage. In 2024, technology was used that allowed virtual characters to appear in real time on a large screen. In 2025, characters physically appeared on stage and interacted with the characters on screen.
The concert screen acts as a ‘tunnel of time and space’, a gateway to time travel. Virtual time and space is connected to the real world through these gates. We see the virtual character through the screen, and the character sees us in the real world. When we played Endless Aeons, the character travelled through the gate and appeared in reality.

In addition to the “Endless Aeons” song, the theme of time and space also appears in other songs on this live EP. The opening track “MEGAPORTAL INTRO” layers different versions of the Takao song, creating a chaotic and exciting atmosphere. “Quell the Souls in Sing Ling Temple” is about the struggle between this world and the afterlife. During the acoustic “Defenders of Bú-Tik Palace“, Finn, who has appeared in several CHTHONIC music videos over the last decade, was seen on stage. He performed a classic scene in which the characters shout the lyrics to the song. Finally, tens of thousands of fans joined in singing Takao’s chorus and the concert came to a perfect end.
CHTHONIC says it will now concentrate on making a new album, with no plans to tour in the short term. This live EP is a delicious snack for the band’s international fan base, who are eagerly awaiting the band’s next releases and the gigs that will follow.

They say rock can change the world and Freddy Lim made it a reality during his two terms in Parliament, pushing for reform. He promoted legislation that made Taiwan the first country in Asia to accept marriage equality and pushed for better protection of indigenous rights. He also supported budgets to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. He advocated transitional justice, calling on the government to open up secret documents from the authoritarian era to allow truth and justice to prevail in society.
In 2023, these released archives unexpectedly revealed the tragic and previously unknown history of Freddy Lim’s family. Combining history and mythology, it seemed no coincidence that Chthonic‘s music had already told the sad but courageous stories of Freddy Lim’s grandparents. Freddy was shocked to learn of this. In a state of emotional turmoil, he decided to end his eight-year parliamentary career and announced that he would no longer stand for election. He paused to reflect on the direction his life was taking and where his music might yet take him.
