Angra announces official release date for live album Acoustic – Live at Opera de Arame

Author Daniel Agapito - 1.10.2024

In 2023, Angra performed a special concert that fans have been waiting for decades: an acoustic set with top-notch sound and visual production, revisiting some moments from the band’s thirty-year career. “Acoustic – Live at Ópera de Arame” will hit the stores October 11th in a boxset containing 2 CDs and a DVD, and also on gatefold colour vinyl.

The iconic performance by one of the giants of Brazilian music featured the participation of Davi Jardim (piano) and Guga Machado (percussion) during the whole concert, an orchestra and special guests: Toni Garrido (from Brazilian reggae group Cidade Negra) brings an emotional interpretation of “Late Redemption”, originally recorded with MPB icon Milton Nascimento; Vanessa Moreno lends her voice to the classic “No Pain for the Dead” and “Here in the Now”; and Amanda Somerville sings in an impressive duet with Fabio Lione in the dramatic “Tears of Blood”.

Funding member and guitarist Rafael Bittencourt explains:

This acoustic show is a dream come true for me. I’ve always wanted to record smooth and elegant versions of Angra’s songs. Our idea is to show the essence of these songs, stripped of the heavy metal stereotypes. I would like to prove to people that, even without these elements, the songs are still rich with their harmonies, melodies and lyrics

Exploring different musical techniques has always been part of Angra‘s history. The band has always explored various musical styles and the acoustic format, which resulted in historic records, such as the performance held at FNAC in France in the 1990s, some of whose tracks were officially released on their classic EP “Freedom Call”, not to mention specific tracks throughout the group’s studio discography.

Due to the great success of this acoustic concert that will be soon released, held in Curitiba in 2023, the group performed a brief series of selected concerts in 2024, with great public success in large and renowned venues in Brazil and Chile. Besides the acoustic release, which the band had been preparing for a year, Angra released the 10th studio album of its career, “Cycles of Pain”, in 2023, which resulted in a major world tour, with soldout concerts in Brazil and concerts in North America and Europe.

With iconic albums and extensive tours across the Americas, Europe and Asia, Angra has solidified a loyal fan base. The numbers are impressive: more than three million albums worldwide, around half a million monthly listeners on Spotify and more than 50 million views on YouTube.
