Florida alternative rock outfit Anberlin has announced “Currency”, the band’s ninth studio album and the first full-length to feature Matty Mullins as lead vocalist. The record follows 2024’s “Vega”, where Mullins made his recording debut on two tracks. The band produced the eleven-track album alongside Kellen McGregor of Memphis May Fire.

The band also released a new single, “Neverafter”, alongside with a music video directed by drummer Nathan Young and Jacob Moniz. The new song is the second off the album, with the first “Highstakes” being released back in 2024.

Mullins explained the album’s central idea in his own words. According to him, “Currency” explores what happens after the identity you built everything on collapses. He described it as a journey through heartbreak, loss, addiction, and shame. Moreover, he framed the record as finding strength to face the truth and become someone new. He added that healing begins when you stop running from the pain rather than when it ends.
