Symphonic metal fans at Ziggo Dome were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime moment last Saturday (February 7), when former Arch Enemy frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz made a surprise appearance during Epica’s show in Amsterdam.

White-Gluz joined Epica on stage for a special performance of “Sirens – Of Blood And Water”, sharing vocal duties with Simone Simons, Amaranthe’s Elize Ryd and former Delain singer Charlotte Wessels. The four powerhouse vocalists performing together created one of the most talked-about moments of the night.

Alissa later returned to the stage at the end of Epica’s set to perform another fan favourite, “Beyond The Matrix”. Fan-filmed footage of both performances has since surfaced online.

Taking to social media afterwards, White-Gluz reflected on the emotional night:

“After an extremely uplifting, rewarding and productive month in LA, I snuck over to the Netherlands to surprise 8000 fans by jumping on stage with Epica.

Amazingly, even though Epica is one of the first bands I ever toured with, starting about 20 years ago, this is the first time we have performed together.

Words cannot express the intensity of emotions in the Ziggo Dome that night.”

She also praised her fellow singers, calling them “incredibly talented, unique artists” she is proud to call friends.

In true rock ’n’ roll fashion, the story came with an unexpected twist: White-Gluz revealed she actually performed the show with broken ribs after slipping on ice during her travels.

“I fell down snowy stairs and broke my ribs the night before heading to Amsterdam. So I did this show with broken ribs… Just don’t make me laugh, that hurts!”

Despite the injury, the guest appearance went ahead as planned, making the already special performance even more impressive.
