Ahren Stringer, a former bassist and vocalist for The Amity Affliction, appeared in court this week, as per theprp. Yesterday, May 26, Stringer appeared in a Benalla Magistrates Court and entered a guilty plea to counts of “driving at a speed dangerous,” refusing to submit to a preliminary oral fluid test, and refusing to submit to a preliminary breath test. According to reports, the incident happened in the Benalla region of Australia last year. Attending the court proceedings, Blunt learned that Stringer’s speed in a 100km zone was recorded at 191km. As part of his guilty plea, two preliminary charges—using a vehicle that was not in a safe or roadworthy condition and exceeding the speed limit by 45 km or more—were withdrawn.
After learning that his sister may have been diagnosed with cancer, Stringer is alleged to have been speeding on the way to Melbourne. At the time of his arrest, he was also heard asserting that he had “the right to refuse” a roadside sobriety test. Following his controversial dismissal from The Amity Affliction, Stringer has been employed by the Queensland Police as an undertaker, according to additional court filings. Stringer was not found guilty of the crime, but yesterday’s punishment resulted in a $1,200 fine and the cancellation and disqualification of his licence.
In 2025, Stringer and Gus Farias (formerly Volumes) formed the band Self Checkout, which they used as an artistic outlet to deal with their personal battles with addiction and mental health.
