For health reasons, Mikko “Dexta” Korpela, drummer for the 1978-founded Finnish hard rock band Zero Nine, is retiring from performing after 45 years. Koillissanomat reported the news. On August 8th, Korpela performed his final show with Zero Nine at Helsinki’s Tavastia. This choice is hardly dramatic, and Korpela is not entirely abandoning Zero Nine.
These gigs are pretty tough to play. I need to take it a little easier these days. If we make new music, I’ll be involved in that. But I can’t commit to future gigs anymore. I’ll leave those to someone else, if we happen to find the right person.
The next drummer has not yet been decided, according to singer Kepa Salmirinne.
During the fall, we will assess the overall situation to see if we can find a reasonable solution. We have decided that we will probably not put the flutes away, but we have not yet started looking for a new player, as Mikko has been busy with other things.
