The Finnish psychedelic black metal group Oranssi Pazuzu was founded in 2007. Vocalist and guitarist Juho “Jun-His” Vanhanen, drummer Jarkko “Korjak” Salo, guitarist Moit, keyboardist and percussionist Ville “Evil” Leppilahti, and bassist Toni “Ontto” Hietamäki were the initial members of the band. Niko “Ikon” Lehdontie of Kairon; IRSE! took Moit’s place after he quit the group in 2016. The Finnish term “oranssi” for orange and the wind monster Pazuzu from Babylonian mythology are the sources of the band’s name.
In 2008, the group recorded “Muukalainen puhuu,” their debut album, in Korjak’s family cabin. Violent Journey Records published it in 2009, and a split LP with Candy Cane was released in 2010. In 2011, Spinefarm released their second album, “Kosmonument”. The follow-up, “Valonielu”, was produced and engineered by London-based producer Jaime Gomez Arellano and released by Svart in 2013. When the band’s 2016 album “Värähtelijä” was released, music websites like AllMusic, Pitchfork, and Spin gave it favourable reviews. In 2016, Lehdontie from fellow Finnish band Kairon; IRSE! became a full-time member of Oranssi Pazuzu after initially joining as a live member. The band’s EP “Kevät / Värimyrsky” was published in 2017. In 2020, the group released “Mestarin Kynsi”, their fifth album.
