WTF Capital of Metal brings a rock-solid lineup of Finland’s most promising metal artists to Tavastia & Semifinal on 22–23 May 2025.
WTF Capital of Metal – Helsinki’s new showcase & conference event focusing on metal and alternative music, will showcase a total of eight Finnish artists to Tavastia and Semifinal as part of its evening program.
Chaoszine interviewed the participating bands and here is what alternative metal band Stoned Statues shared with us:
How does it feel to be part of this year’s WTF Capital of Metal showcase?
Stoned Statues: It feels good. We’re very much a live band, so playing shows like this is where we really shine.
What does participating in a showcase event like this mean to you as a band at this point in your career?
Stoned Statues: It’s a good opportunity to spread awareness about our band. Especially among people in the music industry who might want to work with us in the future.
Have you played a similar showcase event before – in Finland or abroad? If so, how did it impact your journey?
Stoned Statues: Yes, we’ve performed three times between 2021-2023 at Lost in Music festival in Tampere, which is a yearly showcase festival. There were some festival promoters who saw us there, and then booked us later on to play at some festivals.
Do you feel Finland needs more events like WTF Capital of Metal to support the international growth of metal bands? Why or why not?
Stoned Statues: Yes. In the land of a thousand lakes it may be hard to stand out sometimes even though we are living in the capital of metal. Events like this help bands get noticed.
How important is it for your band to reach international audiences, and what steps are you currently taking towards that goal?
Stoned Statues: Reaching international audiences is very important to us. We are looking for people outside of Finland to work with all the time and plan on releasing new music that hopefully reaches people abroad.
Have you performed outside of Finland already – or do you have concrete plans to do so soon?
Stoned Statues: Yes! We’re heading to Brighton UK, on May 16th to play at the Alternative Escape, which is part of The Great Escape festival. It’ll be our first show abroad, and it is going to be an exciting trip! Venues in Finland have become quite familiar to us over the past few years, but abroad we have no idea what to expect. So it is fun to jump somewhere unknown!
What are your next goals as a band in the near future – new releases, tours, or label deals, perhaps?
Stoned Statues: During the last few years we’ve been touring around Finland pretty actively and released two albums in that time. Right now we’re on a mini-tour and after that we’re getting ready to finish our third album, which we’ve been writing recently. So there will be new releases in the near future. Our goal is definitely to go international one day, and we’re dreaming about touring around the world.
Anything else you’d like to say to the international metal community or industry professionals watching this showcase?
Stoned Statues: To the international metal community, we hope to see as many of you as we can someday and we’ll try our best to start playing shows abroad soon! Until then follow us on social media and listen to our music, thank you !<3
