Will we ever hear Audioslave’s unreleased music?

Fans of Audioslave, bad news. The remaining members are “no closer” to releasing their unheard songs, according to Tom Morello, as UCR reports. Audioslave, which included Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Brad Wilk, Tim Commerford, and Morello from Rage Against the Machine, was the biggest supergroup of the early 2000s. The band made a lasting impression on the rock industry despite only recording three studio albums before breaking up in 2007. Morello disclosed that Audioslave had “a record’s worth” of unseen material that would be published “at some point” in 2019, two years after Cornell passed away. But in the six years that have passed, “some point” has never materialized, and it appears that we will have to wait a very long time before it does.

When bands are deciding what songs go on their records and what don’t, it’s not always sensible. It’s not like here’s the 10 best jams. Sometimes it’s like, someone likes this one, someone’s not feeling that one. So, we had from each of the three Audioslave records, we had songs left over, some of which are really great.

Morello claims that despite the high caliber of the work, there are currently no plans to release any of the tunes.

It’s not for lack of anything other than that just we don’t have it together. There’s no plan to not put it out. I would love for it to get in the world and hopefully it will one day.

The public is still unaware of Audioslave‘s unheard tracks, but things with Cornell’s new band appear far more promising. With the surviving members and Cornell’s estate ultimately in agreement, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil and drummer Matt Cameron recently revealed they are working on the group’s final record.
