It’s not uncommon than artists, after parting ways with the band they’ve been performing and working with for so long, decide to focus on personal projects that differ from previous commitments. And this perhaps is what happened to Carla Harvey, that has now taken on a new project titled The Violent Hour. The band will release their debut EP on July 25th, so let’s dive in the music.
To be completely honest with you, I am not a huge fan of the genre of Butcher Babies, which is why I am thoroughly enjoying The Violent Hour instead. Harvey’s vocals are more free to expand and experiment, and I feel like she’s much more in her element now. Another point in their favour is that with Benante handling all instruments and production, the quality is 100% assured.
The EP is very authentic, genuine and maybe this is why it’s also very relatable (which is something that doesn’t hurt at all when listening to some music!). My favorite track has to be the title track, that highlights the versatility of the whole group. Harvey’s vocals take center stage and she proves how an extraordinary singer she is.
So in conclusion, I think checking out The Violent Hour really is an amazing choice. Even if you haven’t seen or heard the singles already released, this new project is something to keep our eyes (and ears) on. After all, we’re all here to discover new good music, and I wouldn’t dream of recommending an album that isn’t worth listening to!
