What kind of music does Fieldy listen to? The answer might surprise you

The recently published edition of “The Dr. Greenthumb Show,” hosted by Cypress Hill’s B-Real, features Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, former Korn bassist. Fieldy was asked what kind of music he currently enjoys throughout the conversation.

I listen to so many genres of music that it depends on what genre, because I’ll start out in the morning with like gospel or contemporary Christian, then I’ll go over to like smooth jazz, to jazz. And I guess later I’ll go more into disco or techno. Then I get into 80s rock, and then I guess later I get into more aggressive metal, into hip hop, then more aggressive hip hop. As my day goes, that’s my pattern of music. A friend of mine goes, ‘How many hours are you on Spotify?’ You know it tells how long you been there? I was the highest one at the table, [they were like] ‘You have no life.’ Like, I love music. I don’t have no music right now, I’m flipping out. This is the longest I go without music if you see me twitching over here.

And still there is something unpredictable.

A lot of it’s not metal. And people think I listen to metal, and it’s like, I’ll go on my list right now. All right, right, here, look: Don Henley – “Dirty Laundry“, “Safety Dance” – “Men Without Hats, “Reflex” – Duran Duran. Heart, Pat Benatar, David Bowie, Rufus, you know… unpeople. You guys heard unpeople? It’s like, heavy, but like slow. Daryl Hall, John Oates, Dark Boy, ZZ Top, Outkast, Cypress Hill, Onyx, SonReal, Mac Miller, Rick Springfield. The Palms are dope. Fred Again.. I love that guy. I’m just saying, you know, it’s so random now that I love that. Back in the day, we had to go buy those CDs. Now it’s like instant gratification, right? You tell me something. ‘Hey, send me something.’ Oh, my God, it right there. I don’t have to go anywhere. Non-stop getting new songs all the time, I love it.

He was unable to identify a specific song when asked whether there was one that he would immediately turn off, but he did acknowledge that he doesn’t like country music in general. When a fan later asked Fieldy whether he had a favourite rock band, he replied that it was the legendary thrash metal group Metallica.

For rock, for me they’re the top. If you look in the dictionary, it says Metallica right there under rock. But if it’s rock in the other genre, it’s probably Foo Fighters, so Metallica for that world, Foo Fighters for this world… Foo Fighters and Metallica don’t go together, they’re different genres; but those two.

Although there is still uncertainty about Korn and Fieldy’s relationship, the subject of his exclusion from the groundbreaking nü-metal group was raised. One fan inquired as to whether Fieldy would be performing with the band at any upcoming performances.

I won’t be playing any shows, but we’ll see what tomorrow brings. You never know, but for now, no.
