“We have already started making the follow-up to “The Screaming of the Valkyries”” – Interview with Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth

Author Flavia Andrade - 2.3.2025

Cradle of Filth reign supreme as one of the most revered formative and notorious names in music – from the depths of the extreme metal underground to the peaks of mainstream pop culture itself, and are responsible for breaking ground for many of today’s top metal artists with their trademark mixture of blackened heaviness, macabre theatricality and scintillating gothic style. The rule of Filth began in 1991, followed by the unleashing of 1994’s “The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh” – humble beginnings that expanded into cinematic classics like “Cruelty And The Beast” and “Midian”, among others. Now, following the release of 2021’s “Existence Is Futile” – which debuted at #20 on the Billboard 200 with Hard Rock Genre (beyond many other chart debuts) – the international institution returns with their arrestingly catchy 14th studio album, “The Screaming of the Valkyries”. Out in March 2025 via Napalm Records, the album is a succinct summation of the ghosts of Cradle’s past and a bold step into the future. Frontman Dani Filth’s recognizable scream and equally identifiable growl stand mightily alongside twin guitar attacks, symphonic flourishes, and explosive rhythm section, implemented by drummer Martin “Marthus” Skaroupka, bassist Daniel Firth, guitarists Marek “Ashok” Smerda and Donny Burbage, and keyboardist/vocalist Zoe Federoff.

Vocalist and Cradle of Filth mastermind Dani Filth talked to Chaoszine about the new album “The Screaming of the Valkyries” in an in-depth conversation, covering from first single “Malignant Perfection” and opening track “To Live Deliciously” all the way through bashing vampiric anthem “Ex Sanguine Draculae“. The making of music videos was also covered in this talk, as well as Dani’s love of horror movies, including Dracula. We also discussed current affairs and how they affect Filth’s writing, especially in songs like “Demagoguery“. The marriage of love and death, which is one of the band’s main lyrical themes, and also present in this album, was also addressed.

Filth also discussed AI and its role in music and society, spoke of Ashok and Zoe’s wedding and how the band was already working on another record as we spoke. What could not have been absent from this talk was the question of when the long-awaited collab between Cradle of Filth and Ed Sheeran will be released: the news is it’s ready, but will only be released in the future.
