Swedish blackened thrash metal group Sarcator will release their third full-length album “Swarming Angels & Flies” on January 17th via Century Media Records. With plenty of live activity in support of the upcoming album, Sarcator are already at the forefront of an emergent, highly determined new generation of Scandinavian extreme metal bands. Chaoszine interviewed the band’s bassist Felix Lindkvist about the new record.
Hej, Sarcator! Who will be answering to our questions and how has your autumn been?
Felix Lundkvist: Hey! Felix the bassist takes this interview. Things are going great, the newly released singles have been met with good response. Currently we are on a weekend tour throughout Sweden called “The rising four” to promote our upcoming album “Swarming Angels & Flies” and so far it’s been killer show after show.
Your new album “Swarming Angels & Flies” will be released 17th of January. What can listeners expect from the album?
Felix: I think “Swarming” is a good mix of both previous albums combined with the maniacal energy of the live shows. It isn’t as atmospheric or experimental as “Alkahest” but more straight to the point. We definitely pushed our physical limits of what we are capable of playing, some songs are kind of hard to control and almost play themselves in a weird way.
You’ve already released few songs from the album. What has the feedback been like so far? Do you follow what fans and media write about your band or do you try to stay away from critics?
Felix: Feedback has been great! Lots of people seem interested, both during live shows and online through comments on posts and different magazines wanting to do interviews. We think all forms of feedback is interesting to take in but it does in no way affect anything we do. Everyone will have an opinion and trying to be at some middle point where everyone is happy will just make no one satisfied in the end anyway.
How did the writing and recording processes go and how long did it take to finish the album? Did you do anything differently than with previous albums?
Felix: “Swarming” was done pretty much exactly the same as the previous albums, only difference was the room where the drums were recorded. The writing process started almost immediately after the last “Alkahest” song was written, we are constantly writing stuff basically. We recorded it around a year ago as of this interview.
What would you say is the most difficult part when making an album? What about the easiest?
Felix: The hardest part is writing songs, it can be very time consuming and demands you to be in the right head space all the time. Easiest is recording for sure, not much can go wrong if you have done your homework (or it’s because I play bass).
You’re currently touring in Sweden. How’s the tour going? Have you gotten a chance to play material from the new album yet?
Felix: Tour is going great and we get the chance to play in some cities we’ve never been to. We hunger to play more new songs but the ones released so far fit really well into the live setting and people seem to like them.
Do you have plans to tour in other countries soon? Is there a chance to see you in Finland?
Felix: We plan to go on tour in the summer to support the album but that stuff is just a matter of economics and shit, all we want to do is play. Finland is pretty close to Sweden so hopefully we get there some day.
What do you enjoy the most when performing live? Do you have a favorite song to play?
Felix: Crowd reaction and the unpredictable nature of the whole gig is what I look forward to when playing. Favorite song would be “Comet of Endtimes” but that could just be because it’s the newest song live. People tend to get violent during “The Hour of Torment” and that’s always a morale boost.
What does Sarcator have in mind next? Do you have any plans or goals you can share with us?
Felix: Going on tour and playing outside of Sweden more and more
Thank you for your time! Would you like to add anything to Chaoszine’s readers?
Felix: Die in hell!!!
