Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates will release their new studio album “The Ghost of a Future Dead” on April 24th, 2026 via Century Media Records. The upcoming record serves as the follow-up to 2021’s adventurous “The Nightmare of Being” and stands as a tribute to the band’s iconic frontman Tomas Lindberg, who tragically passed away in September 2025 due to complications from cancer treatment.
“The Ghost of a Future Dead” was recorded and mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The band commented on the forthcoming album as follows:
“We are proud to finally share news about our eighth studio album, ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead.’ The album will be released on April 24, 2026 — more than two years after its completion. As you know, Tomas Lindberg passed away last year due to complications from his cancer treatments.
In recent years, we worked closely with Tomas, discussing and refining every detail to ensure that nothing was left to chance.
In accordance with Tomas’ wishes, ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead’ remains faithful to its original form. It combines the fierce energy and powerful melodies at the core of At The Gates. This album is Tomas’ legacy.”
The album’s powerful opening track “The Fever Mask” was released yesterday as the first single, accompanied by a tribute video dedicated to Tomas Lindberg. The video was assembled by the band’s longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus.
“‘The Fever Mask’ was one of the final songs completed for the album and quickly stood out as a natural choice for both the opening track and the first single. It perfectly captures the essence of At The Gates, combining raw energy, strong melody, and Tomas’ beautiful lyrics.”
