Watch Mastodon performing with guitarist Nick Johnston
Mastodon recently performed their first of many shows in 2025, and Nick Johnston, their new guitarist, joined them! Johnston is taking over for Brent Hinds, who departed the band early this year for an undisclosed reason; he has yet to comment or be interviewed about the situation. You may see some video of Johnston in action in the meantime. Given his fairly progressive upbringing, Johnston is also a fantastic choice. Over the years, he has collaborated with musicians such as Mike Dawes, David Maxim Micic, Plini, Scale the Summit, Periphery, Intervals, and Polyphia.
