After an impressive 16‑year run, Loïc Rossetti has announced his departure from German post‑metal collective The Ocean, with his final performance set for Hellfest on June 21st, 2025. This move completes a wave of shake-ups within the band’s core lineup following earlier exits by drummer Paul Seidel and guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt.
Seidel, who joined in 2013, left earlier this year following the conclusion of the band’s “End of an Eon” tour in February. The departure marked the end of a decade-long tenure behind the kit. His contributions stretched back to the “Pelagial” era and included pivotal work on several of the band’s critically acclaimed releases.
Just last week, guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt—on board since 2018—confirmed he would play his final shows at Hellfest. He explained that his reasons were personal and emphasized that there was no bad blood, just a sense that he was no longer happy being involved in the band.
Rossetti, who became vocalist in 2009 during the “Heliocentric” and “Anthropocentric” era, echoed a similar tone in his departure. He cited a divergence in creative vision and stated this was a personal decision. Rossetti expressed gratitude to fans, fellow band members (including founder Robin Staps), crew, family, and friends. While he didn’t reveal specific details about his next steps, he said he’s eager to channel his energy into something new.
With these exits, long‑time drummer Seidel, guitarist Åhfeldt, and frontman Rossetti leave behind an era that produced seminal albums like “Heliocentric” (2010), “Phanerozoic I & II” (2018–2020), and “Holocene” (2023). Now the future of The Ocean centers on Robin Staps and newly recruited drummer Jordi Farré, with fresh sounds likely on the horizon.
Rossetti’s departure closes a major chapter in the band’s history, signaling what could be its most significant transformation in years. Fans will witness the final lineup performance at Hellfest this weekend, after which The Ocean faces the challenge—and opportunity—of redefining itself once again.
