On October 9 at 11:30 a.m. PT, Def Leppard received the 2,825th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1750 N. Vine Street, as reported by blabbermouth.net. Def Leppard was awarded a star in the “Recording” category. Bob Buchmann, a Sirius XM radio host, hosted the event, which featured guest speakers Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Resnikoff, president and CEO of Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). Below is an official video report of the event that was posted on YouTube by the Def Leppard channel. Singer Joe Elliott of Def Leppard acknowledged the band’s founding guitarist Pete Willis and the late Steve Clark, who passed away in 1991, in his speech, which is also available in full here.
Are we in good company or what? So, from all of us up here, including Pete Willis and the late, great Steve Clark, we all say to each and every one of you, to our collective families, especially our parents who helped us get where we are now, just simply to our incredible, loving fan base out there, two words — thank you.
We hit it off immediately. Hanging out with Joe and the guys felt like hanging with my own band, but with a different accent. We stayed in touch, and as they went on to record ‘Hysteria’ and we recorded ‘New Jersey’, it was the MTV era, what we refer to as the Gold Rush. Now, there have been many a long night in various cities after each other’s shows, and many celebrations, fun times and laughs and even the heartbreaks and loss. There’s just some things that you’re able to share with a brother from across the ocean that you just both understand. The music of DEF LEPPARD was born and raised in our generation but has continued to reach new audiences who have made it their own for four decades and counting. Their legacy is, in fact, etched in stone. From their induction to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame to this spot on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, the name DEF LEPPARD will always be. – Jon Bon Jovi
[Def Leppard] are one of only four bands — along with U2, AC/DC and Metallica — that have had Top 10 albums in five consecutive decades. With ‘Hysteria’ and ‘Pyromania’, they are one of only five rock bands to have two studio albums with more than 10 million in sales in the U.S. Only four other bands have reached this level: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen. – Bruce Resnikoff
